Dr. Tyler Miller serves as the Associate Academic Director of the School of Psychology, Sociology and Rural Studies and holds the rank of Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at South Dakota State University (SDSU). His research focuses on metacognition, aging, creativity, and basic memory processes. He earned his B.A. from Buena Vista University (2004), M.S. from Emporia State University (2008), and Ph.D. from Texas A&M University (2012).

In his research, Dr. Miller explores how metacognitive processes influence learning outcomes, particularly in aging populations and educational settings. His work bridges cognitive science and applied psychology, examining topics such as memory retention, task success, and technology’s role in conscientious student behavior. He has received the Edward Patrick Hogan Award for Excellence in Teaching (2018), reflecting his commitment to pedagogical innovation.
His funded projects include grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, Association for Psychological Science, and National Science Foundation. Dr. Miller is a Fellow of the Psychonomic Society and serves on academic committees such as the Academic Affairs Committee and as faculty adviser for Psi Chi.
He is affiliated with the School of Psychology, Sociology and Rural Studies and is based in Room 109 of the Psychology, Sociology and Rural Studies building on the SDSU campus.
