Marian Riner is an Assistant Professor of Social Work and Program Director at Buena Vista University. She holds a B.A. in Social Work from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville (1998) and an M.S.W. from the University of Arkansas, Little Rock (1999). Licensed in Iowa, Arkansas, and Texas, she has 20 years of practice across urban, suburban, and rural settings.
Her career spans foster care services (home studies, family therapy, foster parent trainings), therapeutic day treatment for children, hospice/home health social work, and school-based services for homeless students. She previously worked at the Area Education Agency in Iowa and currently oversees field education at Buena Vista University.
Research interests include child and family welfare, intersectionality, and homelessness. She has presented at local, state, and national conferences on topics like mental health and homeless services.
Teaches courses such as Modern Sociology, Intersectionality, Child and Family Welfare, and Field Practicum.
