Tye Rush

Tye Rush is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of California, Davis. His research focuses on race and ethnicity in election laws, representation, and voting rights. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).

Rush’s research investigates the politics of voting laws, demographic threat in legislative behavior, and racial disparities in electoral trust. His book project, The Majority Rules: The Politics of Voter Identification Laws, challenges prevailing theories on restrictive voter ID legislation using original datasets of state legislator actions.

His recent publications explore topics like voter fraud myths, pandemic-era election adaptations, and racial efficacy in voting. Awards include the UC President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship, Ford Foundation Dissertation Fellowship, and Princeton Dissertation Scholars Program funding. He served as a Voting and Redistricting Fellow at Common Cause and a research fellow at UCLA’s Institute for Inequality and Democracy at Luskin.
