Turid Løyte Harboe serves as a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Education, University of Oslo, specializing in the history and ethics of education. Her research examines how educational practices become legitimized and transformed historically, with particular focus on Norwegian teacher education traditions and cultural value systems.
Her academic background includes a Dr. Philos. degree (2024), Cand. Polit. (1995), and Cand. Mag. (1993), all from the University of Oslo. Previously, she held a doctoral research fellowship at UiO's Department of Education and served as policy advisor at the Norwegian Association of Higher Education Institutions (2013–2017).
Harboe's research interests center on critical cultural-historical analysis of educational practices, with emphasis on History of Education, Ethics of Education, Philosophy of Education, and the Nordic Education Model. She approaches educational history as a tool for contemporary critique, examining how historical processes shape current educational values and institutional structures.
Her recent publications demonstrate consistent focus on Norwegian teacher education history, public engagement of educators, and philosophical concepts of Bildung. The works reveal evolving interests from foundational philosophical concepts (2011-2013) toward concrete historical analyses of Norwegian educational institutions (2020-2024), with increasing attention to public history perspectives.
As an educator, she teaches courses including PED1002 (Education and Training), PED4303 (Education and Democratization), and MIED4100 (The Norwegian Education System in its Nordic Context) under the UVEXFAC program.
Harboe is affiliated with the Humanities Studies in Education (HumStud) research group, contributing to interdisciplinary scholarship that bridges historical analysis with contemporary educational challenges. Her work connects Norwegian educational traditions with broader European philosophical frameworks, particularly through genealogical methods and critical theory approaches.
