Dr. Troy Rohn is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Boise State University's College of Arts and Sciences, where he has been faculty since 2000. He holds a B.S. in Physiology from UC Davis (1990) and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Washington (1994), with postdoctoral training in Paris, Montana State University, and UC Irvine.
His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of Alzheimer's disease, particularly the neurotoxic effects of ApoE4 gene fragments. Key areas include:
- Zebrafish modeling of neurodegeneration
- In vivo gene modulation techniques
- 5-HT2A receptor targeting for cognitive enhancement
- Exercise-induced neuroprotection
Dr. Rohn leads The Rohn Lab, which has secured sustained NIH funding since 2013. He mentors students in neuroscience projects but is currently not accepting new members for 2025-26. As Associate Editor for Frontiers in Dementia and Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, he supports academic discourse in neurodegeneration research.
