Tristan Webb

Tristan Webb is a Lecturer in Law at Aberystwyth Law School, Aberystwyth University, where he joined in August 2024 and serves as Year 1 Tutor. His academic work spans international law, UK public law, comparative law, peace studies, and jurisprudence, with a regional focus on Korea and Mongolia.

Research Interests:

• International law, especially the nature and foundations of non-intervention
• UK public law, particularly the scope and limits of Crown authority
• Comparative legal systems, focusing on cross-jurisdictional legal interactions
• Peace and conflict studies, especially the legal frameworks for peaceful unification
• Jurisprudence, including visual representations of legal concepts

His publications and conference presentations reflect a strong engagement with North Korea, legal pluralism, and sustainable development. The articles demonstrate interdisciplinary trends combining law, history, politics, and energy policy, with a consistent focus on accountability, justice, and international cooperation.

Tristan passed his PhD at the University of Kent in 2022 without corrections. His thesis, titled ‘The Meaning and Significance in International Law of the Principle of Non-Inter(ference/vention)’, offers a doctrinally rigorous analysis of a foundational principle in international law and critiques longstanding assumptions in the literature. He has advised on international law and DPRK policy at institutions including the ROK Ministry of Unification, the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and the UN National Assembly. He is actively involved in academic networks, including the UK Constitutional Law Association and the Association of Korean Studies in Europe.

His research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to peace, justice, and sustainable development. He has collaborated with scholars such as Dr. Rebecca Empson and maintains a presence in both European and East Asian academic circles.
