Dr. Tristan Kohl is Associate Professor of International Economics at the University of Groningen, with guest affiliations at Statistics Netherlands. His research examines economic disintegration through trade agreements, sanctions, and lobbying. He serves as co-editor of the Journal of International Trade & Economic Development and Managing Director of the European Trade Study Group.
His work combines gravity modeling, firm-level analysis, and policy evaluation to study Brexit impacts, EU-Russia sanctions, and demographic influences on global trade. Recent projects include EUROSHOCKS on European economic integration challenges and NWO-funded research on trade policy lobbying.
Dr. Kohl advises policymakers including the Netherlands House of Representatives on trade policy and WTO reform. He currently supervises doctoral students researching sanctions evasion, trade-environment linkages, and historical urban development.
