Trish Zimmerman is an Associate Professor of Religion at St. Olaf College, specializing in Christian mysticism and the history of Christianity. She holds a PhD and MA from the University of Chicago Divinity School, alongside a BA from Gustavus Adolphus College with studies at the University of Heidelberg. Her research emphasizes feminist theology, theology of food, and the mysticism of place, particularly exploring Minnesota biomes as sites of spiritual encounter.
Dr. Zimmerman co-teaches in the Environmental Conversations program and has contributed to the Enduring Questions/Great Conversation initiative. She serves on professional committees, including the American Society of Church History Council and the American Academy of Religion’s History of Christianity group. As North American series editor for Routledge’s Contemporary Theological Explorations in Christian Mysticism, she also leads religious literacy workshops for legal and business professionals through The Damascus Project.
Her current book project, A Mysticism of Place, examines ecological spirituality. Past roles include senior fellow for the Ford Foundation’s Difficult Dialogues project and leadership in interreligious education. Zimmerman actively engages in public theology through preaching, writing, and advocacy for religious literacy.
