Dr. Trina Fortner Wood is a Lecturer and Assistant Department Chair in the Department of Special Education at the University of West Georgia's College of Education. She holds an Ed.D. in Instructional Leadership from the University of Alabama, along with multiple advanced degrees in learning disorders and educational leadership.
With 25 years of experience in Alabama public education as a teacher, administrator, and superintendent, plus five years as a Georgia special education director, Wood brings extensive practical knowledge to her teaching. Her expertise spans special education leadership, curriculum design, collaboration strategies, and online pedagogy. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses for pre-service and in-service special education teachers, covering topics from program planning to curriculum implementation.
Wood received the College of Education's 2024 Excellence in Online Teaching Award for her innovative instructional strategies. Her research includes investigations into technology use during the pandemic, presented at the 45th Annual Proceedings of Selected Research and Development Papers.
