Trey Boone is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Virginia. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh (2019) and completed postdoctoral training at Duke University’s philosophy department and Center for Cognitive Neuroscience. His research bridges philosophy, psychology, and neuroscience, focusing on two core programs: foundational issues in explanation/causation in complex systems (particularly neuroscience) and interdisciplinary studies of consciousness and perceptual representation.
He teaches graduate/undergraduate courses in philosophy of science, philosophy of mind, and scientific reasoning. His work has been supported by grants from the Templeton Foundation and National Science Foundation, with publications in top journals like Philosophy of Science and Synthese.
Boone collaborates across disciplines, investigating topics such as visual representation precision, conceptual issues in network neuroscience, and reduction/emergence in complex systems. He is also an associate editor at the Brains Blog.
