Trevor Tombe is a Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Calgary and Director of Fiscal and Economic Policy at The School of Public Policy. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Toronto and a BBA in Finance and Economics from Simon Fraser University. His research focuses on international trade, fiscal federalism, and macroeconomics, with contributions to policy analysis, textbooks, and public engagement. He advises governments on fiscal and economic issues and contributes to policy discussions through media and op-eds.

Research Interests: His work spans international trade, public finances, fiscal federalism, and macroeconomic policy. He co-authored textbooks like Public Finance in Canada and Macroeconomics, and co-edited Fiscal Federalism in Canada. His recent projects include the Finances of the Nation initiative and analysis of Alberta’s pension plan.
Publications & Awards: Over 30 journal articles and policy papers, including works in the American Economic Review and Canadian Journal of Economics. Awards include the Vanderkamp Prize (2019), Harry Johnson Prize (2016), and Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee Medal (2023).
Advising & Grants: Supervised over 20 PhD and Master’s students. Secured SSHRC grants for research on fiscal sustainability, trade barriers, and productivity. Served on expert panels for the Bank of Canada and federal/provincial governments.
Labs & Collaborations: Co-directs Finances of the Nation, a data platform for public finance analysis. Collaborates with institutions like the IMF, C.D. Howe Institute, and Macdonald-Laurier Institute.
