Trent Newmeyer is an Associate Professor with dual affiliations in the Department of Sociology and the Centre for Women’s and Gender Studies at Brock University. He currently serves as Graduate Program Director for the Social Justice and Equity Studies program. His research bridges sociology of leisure, HIV/AIDS studies, and craftivism, exploring topics like tourism’s sociocultural impacts, stigma mitigation through artistic practices (e.g., body mapping), and reproductive health decision-making among HIV-positive women.
Key areas of focus include the social history of leisure, critical analysis of neoliberal governance in community spaces, and intersections between tourism and public health. Newmeyer teaches courses on sociological research methods, diversity in leisure studies, and HIV/AIDS pandemic dynamics. His work often employs qualitative methodologies to uncover how marginalized groups navigate structural inequities.
Recent publications analyze neoliberal frameworks in community park management, quest tourism motivations, family well-being in long-term care transitions, and socio-demographic pressures affecting HIV-positive women’s fertility choices. His scholarship emphasizes applied ethics, participatory research, and policy-relevant outcomes for vulnerable populations.
