Travis Pickell is a Research Fellow at the University of Virginia’s College of Arts and Sciences (expected PhD completion in 2016). He holds a BA from The College of William & Mary (2006), MDiv from Princeton Theological Seminary (2011), and MA from the University of Virginia (2014). His research focuses on biomedical ethics, religion’s role in public life, ethics of war and conflict, comparative religious ethics (Abrahamic traditions), Catholic social teaching, and environmental ethics. He has taught as an instructor of record for courses like ‘Business, Ethics & Society’ and served as a teaching assistant in theology and ethics courses under Professors Childress and Mathewes.
His scholarly work includes contributions to The Oxford Handbook of Political Theology and The Ridley Theological Journal, among others. He has received notable fellowships such as the BB&T Fellowship (2011-2016) and the Tomorrow’s Professor Today Program participation (2013-2015). Pickell is affiliated with the American Academy of Religion (AAR) and the Society of Christian Ethics (SCE). His teaching resources development includes materials for Principles of Biomedical Ethics and Essentials of Public Health Ethics textbooks.
