Travis Pickell serves as Assistant Professor of Theology and Ethics at George Fox University, where he holds multiple leadership roles including Chair of the Department of Theology, Co-Director of the Program for Leadership & Formation, and Faculty Fellow in the University Honors Program. Previously, he was faculty at the University of Virginia and associate director at Anselm House, a Christian study center at the University of Minnesota.

Pickell's research centers on the intersection of Christian theological ethics with contemporary societal challenges, particularly in medicine, technology, and pluralistic contexts. His work critically examines concepts like 'burdened agency' in end-of-life decision-making, as explored in his 2024 monograph Burdened Agency: Christian Theology and End-of-Life Ethics. He investigates how modern healthcare frameworks interact with religious traditions and cultural pluralism.
He maintains significant external engagements as a research affiliate and advisory board member for Harvard University's Human Flourishing Program and co-chairs the Christian Theology & Bioethics Interest Group at the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities. Pickell also directs George Fox's Character Virtue Initiative and previously led the Cornerstone Core curriculum (2021-2025).
