Tracy Wallach is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Massachusetts Boston in the Gender, Leadership, and Public Policy program within the McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies. She has been teaching leadership courses since 2015 and is also a registered Analytic-Network™ coach based in Brookline, MA. Her academic work focuses on group dynamics and leadership development across various organizational contexts.
Dr. Wallach holds a PhD in Educational Studies from Lesley University, an MSW from Smith College School for Social Work, and a BA from Brandeis University. She began her career as a social worker and psychotherapist before transitioning into organizational consulting and academia.
Her research interests center on participant learning at group relations (Tavistock) conferences and applications of group relations methods to facilitate collaboration within and between organizations. She specializes in understanding how group dynamics influence leadership, authority, and organizational behavior. Dr. Wallach has taught at multiple institutions including UMass Boston, Clark University, Lesley University, Northeastern University, Simmons College School of Social Work, and William James College Leadership Psychology Program.
Her publications demonstrate a consistent focus on group dynamics, leadership, and conflict resolution from a systems perspective. The articles show an evolution of her work from theoretical explorations of group relations to practical applications in diverse cultural and organizational contexts, including international settings like Palestine, Turkey, China, and Israel.
Dr. Wallach actively engages in leadership development through her academic work and private practice, offering personal and group coaching to help leaders develop emotional intelligence, resilience, and relational skills. She has developed the Leadership for Change program, which integrates mindfulness practices with systems thinking to help leaders navigate complex organizational dynamics.
Her teaching approach emphasizes experiential learning, with students reporting that her courses provide immediately applicable concepts that help them better understand organizational dynamics and improve their leadership effectiveness. She has received positive feedback for her engaging teaching style, sensitivity to diverse learning needs, and ability to create safe learning environments.
