Tracy Slatyer is a Professor of Physics at MIT, specializing in theoretical physics with a focus on dark matter, particle astrophysics, and cosmology. She is affiliated with the MIT Center for Theoretical Physics, MIT Laboratory for Nuclear Science, and MIT Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research. Her research explores dark matter interactions, astrophysical data analysis, and cosmological implications of particle physics models.
Education: B.Sc. (Honors) in Theoretical Physics from Australian National University (2005), Ph.D. in Physics from Harvard University (2010). Postdoctoral work at the Institute for Advanced Study (2010–2013). Joined MIT in 2013, promoted to Associate Professor in 2018, and tenured in 2019.
Research interests include novel dark matter models, gamma-ray astronomy, and cosmic microwave background studies. Notably co-discovered the Fermi Bubbles in the Milky Way's center. Awards include the 2024 Guggenheim Fellowship, 2021 New Horizons in Physics Prize, and multiple teaching awards.
Grants and advising: Active in training students and postdocs. Key grants include Simons Investigator Award and DoE Early Career Research Award. Collaborates widely on projects like CTA, LSST, and cosmic frontier studies.
Labs/teams: Leads research groups focused on dark matter, astrophysical data analysis, and interdisciplinary projects in particle astrophysics.
