Tracy Michaud

Tracy Michaud is an Assistant Professor in the Tourism and Hospitality Program at the University of Southern Maine (USM), affiliated with the Muskie School of Public Service. She earned a PhD in Anthropology/Archaeology from the University of Pittsburgh and holds office at 307 Masterton Hall, Portland. Her work focuses on sustainable community tourism development, cultural and culinary tourism, and industry partnerships in Maine and Iceland.

• Specializes in rural community economic development through arts and cultural tourism
• Founder of The Maine Highlands Guild and former Executive Director of the Maine Crafts Association
• Received State and National recognition, including the 2003 National Social Venture Competition award
• Active in boards: Maine Association of Non-Profits, World Crafts Council, and Maine Arts Commission

Her academic contributions include creating an Associate’s Degree in Traditional and Contemporary Craft at Eastern Maine Community College and developing the Center for Maine Craft. Awards include the ICHRIE NENA Best Research Poster Award, Outstanding Faculty Involvement Award, and Engaged Faculty Teaching Fellowship at USM.
