Tracey Owens Patton is a Professor of Rhetoric and Critical Cultural & Mediated Studies in the Department of English at the University of Wyoming. She previously served in the Department of Communication & Journalism (2003-2022) and as Director of the African American & Diaspora Studies Program (2009-2017). Her work focuses on critical cultural communication, rhetorical studies, and transnational studies. She has authored two books and contributed to over 80 academic conferences. Patton holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Utah and multiple degrees from Colorado State University.

Her research explores themes like race, rhetoric, and transnational identity. Recent publications include A Nation's Undesirables (2024) and articles on rodeo history and Blackfishing. Her 2024 book examines post-Nazi era whiteness through mixed-race narratives.

Patton teaches courses on critical theory, media studies, and social justice rhetoric. She has advised numerous students and contributed to interdisciplinary programs.
