Tracey Covassin is the Gwendolyn Norrell Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Michigan State University's College of Education. Her expertise focuses on sport-related concussion, particularly in sex differences, epidemiology, and risk factors. She directs a multi-site high school and college sport-concussion outreach program in Mid-Michigan. Covassin holds a Ph.D. from Temple University and was inducted as a Fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology in 2022.
Her research explores concussion management, psychological recovery, and the impact of prior conditions like COVID-19 on outcomes. She evaluates tools like the ReCoUPS platform for remote symptom monitoring and investigates disparities in concussion reporting and outcomes across demographics. Covassin collaborates on rule changes (e.g., Nelson-Cradle Rule in wrestling) to reduce injury rates and advocates for culturally competent care in neurocognitive testing.
