Toshiko Komahara

Toshiko Komahara is a Specially Appointed Professor in the Department of Design at Osaka University of Arts, where she has been teaching since 1987. She maintains additional academic affiliations as Lecturer at Kurashiki University of Science and the Arts and previously taught at Osaka Seikei University.

Her research encompasses illustration techniques, picture book creation, artistic bookbinding, and visual design. She founded Studio OKOMA, focusing on illustration and book production, and has provided professional guidance for numerous published works.

Professor Komahara has received international recognition including:

• Partnership Award at the 9th International Bookbinding Biennale (2007)
• 1st Place in Schools Category at the 8th International Bookbinding Biennale (2005)

She teaches courses including:

• Visual Arts 5 (Osaka University of Arts, 2020-present)
• Design Basics 1 (Osaka University of Arts, 2019-present)
• Expression in Picture Books (Osaka University of Arts, 2007-present)
• Illustration (Kurashiki University, 2011-present)

She leads Studio OKOMA for professional illustration projects and remains active in the Tokyo Bookbinding Club since 2007.
