Tore Nilsson serves as a Senior Lecturer and Program Manager for the Subject Teacher Program at Stockholm University's Department of Subject Didactics. Since 2012, he has focused on modern languages with a didactic emphasis, contributing significantly to teacher education development.
His research spans three primary areas: professional development and teacher cognition of language teachers and students, flipped classroom methodologies in language teaching, and grammar didactics. He has also made substantial contributions to higher education pedagogical development, particularly in digital resources for educational contexts.
Nilsson has conducted notable development work through CeUL's (Centre for University Teacher Education) pedagogical ambassador project on mobile learning in campus-based education (2017), and in 2021 launched the CIRCLE project (Current Inquiry and Research Conversations in Language Education) with Una Cunningham. His current research includes the "Word Up!" project focusing on word learning in second language acquisition.
He regularly lectures at educational events including School Forum and BETT in London, and was the opening speaker at Karlstad University's "Teaching and Examination" conference in fall 2016. His collaborative work with Hugues Engel at the Department of Romance and Classical Studies has produced workshops on flipped classroom techniques and formative assessment.
