Tore Jahnsen is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Oslo. His research focuses on cAMP-dependent protein kinases (PKA), their regulation, structural biology, and roles in cellular processes such as sperm motility and signal transduction. He has collaborated widely, including with Professor Bjørn S. Skålhegg, and leads a research group of 9 members (technicians, students, and postdocs). He serves on the boards of Rheumatech AS and Spermatech AS.
Education: Dr.med. (Ph.D.) in 1983 and Cand.med. (M.D.) in 1982 from the University of Oslo's Faculty of Medicine. His doctoral thesis examined adenylyl cyclases in rat testes.
Research interests include PKA structure/function, phylogenetic analysis of catalytic subunits, heterogeneity in PKA genes (with implications for diagnostics/therapeutics), and human sperm metabolism/capacitation. His work spans biochemistry, molecular biology, and reproductive biology.
Recent publications (2013–2007) highlight studies on PKA evolution, mutations in PKA genes, sperm glycolysis regulation, and roles of PKA in pre-mRNA splicing and T lymphocytes. His 1991 Anders Jahres Award recognized contributions to early-career science.
Advising and grants: Supervises Ph.D. and master's students. Research group includes medical students and postdocs. Collaborates internationally on projects involving protein kinase signaling and reproductive biology.
Research teams: Active in the 'cAMP and PKA' research group at the University of Oslo, exploring PKA's role across biological systems.
