Prof. Michael Boshart is a Professor in the Department of Genetics at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), located at the Biozentrum Martinsried. His research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms governing differentiation and host-parasite interactions in pathogenic trypanosomes like Trypanosoma brucei and Leishmania. His group investigates cAMP signaling pathways, immune evasion strategies, and parasite adaptation to host environments.
Research Interests: The Boshart group studies how trypanosomes utilize cAMP signaling to silence host immune responses and regulate developmental transitions. Key areas include the role of adenylyl cyclases in immune suppression, temperature-induced differentiation via protein kinase A, and unique protozoan-specific cAMP pathways distinct from mammalian systems. This work aims to identify novel drug targets for tropical diseases.
Advising & Grants: Leads a research team with technical assistants and collaborates on projects involving molecular genetics, biochemistry, and cell biology. Current open positions include a technical assistant role focusing on lab management and teaching support. The group operates within LMU's Genetics Department on the Martinsried HighTechCampus.
Labs/Teams: Directs the Boshart Research Group, part of LMU's Biocenter. The lab employs advanced imaging and molecular techniques to study parasite biology. Collaborations involve international teams analyzing signaling pathways and host-pathogen dynamics.
