Tony Zilincik serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Music at Capital University's Conservatory, teaching applied tuba, composition, theory, and ensemble courses while directing the brass choir and Capital Thunder tuba/euphonium ensemble. His institutional affiliation spans teaching, performance coordination, and festival leadership within the university's music division.
He holds a Master of Music in composition from Bowling Green State University and a Bachelor of Music in theory and composition from Central Michigan University, forming the foundation for his dual expertise in performance and creative output.
Zilincik specializes in contemporary music creation and pedagogy, particularly known for innovative presentations like the 2012 Tower Thunder performance in an 80-foot tower. He coordinates Capital University's annual New Music Festival and Merry TUBACHRISTMAS Columbus, emphasizing new works through initiatives such as Hijazker and published compositions with Cimarron Music. His research integrates tuba repertoire development, improvisation techniques, and cross-disciplinary collaborations like the Fantasy for Flute and Tuba.
As an active performer, he holds positions with the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra, Capital Brass quintet, Cathedral Brass quintet at St. Joseph Cathedral, and Brass Band of Columbus, while having performed with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and Broadway productions including Annie, The Lion King, and Mary Poppins.
