Tony Tong

Tony Tong serves as Professor and Chair of the Strategy, Entrepreneurship, and Operations (SEO) Division at the Leeds School of Business, University of Colorado Boulder. He holds the Thomas Stix Guggenheim Family Endowed Chair in Business Design and Innovation and serves as a Dean's Faculty Fellow. Previously, he held the position of Senior Associate Dean for Faculty and Research.

His research expertise spans strategic management, innovation, and international business, with specific focus areas including knowledge and innovation systems, corporate strategy, digitization, intellectual property rights, and interfirm relationships in global contexts. Professor Tong has published extensively in top-tier journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Strategic Management Journal, and Research Policy.

His interdisciplinary research has earned him significant recognition:

Professor Tong has secured research funding as principal investigator for two NSF Awards and served as commercialization lead for multiple federal agency grants. He teaches Strategic Management, Global Strategy, International Business, and Technology & Innovation Management across MBA, Executive, Ph.D., and undergraduate programs, receiving teaching awards from CU, Ohio State, and Purdue. He has developed highly influential teaching materials including bestselling case studies for Harvard Business Publishing and popular articles in Harvard Business Review.

Professor Tong has held leadership positions including past Chairperson of the SMS's Corporate Strategy Interest Group and member of the Executive Committee of the AOM's Strategic Management Division. He serves on the editorial boards of numerous prestigious journals including Academy of Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, and Strategic Management Journal. He has successfully mentored doctoral students, with two former PhD students winning the Wiley Blackwell Outstanding Dissertation Award in Strategic Management.
