Tony Penna is an Associate Professor of Theatre in the Department of Performing Arts at Clemson University. He previously served as the Resident Lighting Designer at Actors Theatre of Louisville (ATL) for four years, designing over 50 plays and musicals, including works in the Humana Festival of New American Plays. His design for Macbeth was exhibited at the 2003 Prague Quadrennial and displayed at the 2004 United States Institute for Theatre Technology conference.
Education: MFA from Boston University; BA from Hanover College. Teaching focuses include Stage Management, Stage Lighting, and Theatre Appreciation. Professional collaborations span institutions like the Berkshire Theatre Festival, Cincinnati Playhouse, and Eleventh Hour Theatre Company in New York. Current projects include set and lighting designs for Twelfth Night and a New York ten-minute play festival.
He maintains ties with Hanover College Theatre, teaching design and stagecraft courses. A member of United Scenic Artists, his career blends academic instruction with professional theatre design expertise.
