Professor Tony Morland is a faculty member at the Department of Psychology, University of York, and affiliated with the York Neuroimaging Centre (YNiC). He holds a BSc and PhD in Physics from Imperial College London, with postdoctoral training in neuroimaging and vision science. His research focuses on understanding visual perception, cortical reorganization in visual disorders, and the functional organization of the human visual cortex using neuroimaging techniques. He leads projects funded by the Wellcome Trust and Medical Research Council, collaborating with institutions globally.
Education: BSc and PhD in Physics (Imperial College London). Research interests include neuroimaging of visual cortex pathways, effects of visual diseases (e.g., macular degeneration, achromatopsia), and plasticity in adult visual systems. He supervises students like Lauren Welbourne and Sam Lawrence. Teaching includes modules on brain behavior and advanced vision topics.
Key research trends: Over 90 publications emphasize neuroimaging (fMRI, MEG), visual cortex remapping, and translational studies linking brain structure/function to clinical outcomes. Notable collaborations include work with Prof Alex Wade (York) and Prof Frans Cornelissen (Groningen).
Grants and supervision: Current grants support studies on foveal pathways and visual deficits. His lab (YNiC) integrates advanced imaging technologies for clinical and basic research applications.
