Tony Humphries is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at McGill University, where he joined in 2002 after a long-term visit at the Fields Institute during 2001. He has served on the CAIMS board as a member-at-large since 2010, previously holding positions on the Board of Directors (2010) and CAIMS Research Prize Committee (2015).
His educational background includes:
- BA from the University of Cambridge (1989)
- PhD in Mathematics from the University of Bath (1994)
Prior to McGill, he held academic positions as a postdoctoral research assistant at Bristol University and Lecturer/Senior Lecturer at the University of Sussex.
His research focuses on the intersection of numerical analysis and dynamical systems, with recent emphasis on state-dependent retarded and advanced-delay differential-difference equations critical for modeling time-delay phenomena in complex systems.
At the Centre de Recherches Mathématiques (CRM) in Montreal, he has held leadership roles including Deputy Director for Scientific Programs and Director of the Applied Mathematics Laboratory, and chaired the 2007 Thematic Semester on Applied Dynamical Systems.
