Tony Greene

Dr. Tony Greene is a Senior Lecturer in Bioscience at Griffith University's School of Environment and Science. His research focuses on environmental microbiology, extremophile bacteria, and bioremediation applications.

Research areas include:

• Microbial degradation of environmental pollutants
• Halophilic and thermophilic bacteria
• Antimicrobial properties of plant extracts
• Genomic analysis of extremophiles

He currently supervises doctoral research on reducing halophilic microorganisms in hypersaline lakes and developing methods to measure nutrient stressor effects on ecosystems. Previously supervised research includes anticancer potential of cyanobacteria, biogas production optimization, and microbial degradation of hydrocarbons and chlorinated compounds.

Grant funding includes development of analytical facilities for chemical and biological compound quantification. Publications focus on genomic characterization of halophilic bacteria and antimicrobial applications of native Australian plants.
