Dr. Tony Fang is a Full Professor and Stephen Jarislowsky Chair in Cultural and Economic Transformation at Memorial University of Newfoundland, located in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto and holds the J. Robert Beyster Faculty Fellowship at Rutgers University. His expertise spans labor economics, immigration policy, and applied econometrics. He has held leadership roles, including past presidency of the Chinese Economists Society and membership on the World Bank's Expert Advisory Committee on Migration and Development.
Dr. Fang's research focuses on aging workforces, pension policies, education economics, and the integration of immigrants. He has conducted extensive studies on minimum wage impacts, union effects, and innovation-driven firm growth. His work blends theoretical rigor with policy relevance, addressing challenges such as population decline and labor market disparities.
He has authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles in top journals like the Strategic Management Journal and Industrial and Labor Relations Review. His grants total CAD 4.3 million from SSHRC and HRSDC. Key awards include the Chutian Scholar (2010) and Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts (2017).
Prior roles include Director of the Master of International Business Program at Monash University and positions at York University and the University of Manitoba. He has been a Visiting Scholar at institutions including Harvard University, Wharton School, and Tsinghua University.
