Dr. Tony E. Adams is the Caterpillar Professor and Chair of the Communication Department at Bradley University's Slane College of Communications & Fine Arts, where he has served since 2017. Previously, he was a faculty member at Northeastern Illinois University. His international engagements include visiting scholar positions at the University of Iceland, Autonomous University of Aguascalientes, and Universidad de Santiago de Chile.
Dr. Adams' research specializes in:
- Autoethnography methodology development
- Stigma and social support systems
- Self-disclosure processes
- Queer spaces and identity
- Media representation studies
His notable awards include:
- Bernard J. Brommel Distinguished Research Professor (NEIU, 2017)
- Caterpillar Professor (Bradley University, 2021)
In 2023, he created Bradley's Certificate in Autoethnography program. As editorial leader, he co-edits the Writing Lives book series and founded the Journal of Autoethnography.
