Cyle Metzger is an Assistant Professor of Art History and Director of the Art History Program at Bradley University, where he is also the Founding Director of the Museum Studies minor. He is affiliated with the Art and Design Department in the Slane College of Communications & Fine Arts.
His educational background includes a PhD in Art History with a minor in Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Stanford University (2021), an MA in History of Art from the University of California, Riverside (2015), an MFA in Interdisciplinary Studio Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art (2010), and a BA in Liberal Arts from Bennington College (2008).
Dr. Metzger's research centers on marginalized identities in American art, particularly transgender and disabled experiences. His work explores how visual culture constructs, represents, and erases gender and disability. He teaches global art surveys and special topics courses on race, nationalism, gender, class, and disability in art history.
His recent publications and curatorial projects reflect an interdisciplinary approach, bridging art history with queer theory and disability studies. He co-curated the 2024 exhibition 'Robert Andy Coombs: No Content Warning' and is working on a collaborative book on disability in American art and a solo monograph, Deep Cuts: Transgender History in American Art after World War II.

He is currently Co-Executive Editor of Panorama, the journal of the Association of Historians of American Art, and actively contributes to academic leadership and interdisciplinary program development.
