Paul Louis Metzger is a Professor of Christian Theology & Theology of Culture at Jessup University, affiliated with the School of Theology & Leadership in Portland, OR. He previously served as Professor and Dean of Integration & Cultural Engagement at Multnomah University (1999–2024) and currently leads The Institute for Cultural Engagement: New Wine, New Wineskins. His work bridges theology, culture, ethics, and interfaith relations, emphasizing the church’s role in contemporary society through initiatives like the 'Science for Seminaries' program and multifaith engagement projects.
Metzger holds a PhD in Theology from King’s College London (1999), an MA in Christian Thought, and a Master of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (1992), alongside a BA in Biblical Studies from Northwestern College (1987).
His research spans cultural theology, interreligious dialogue, and ethical engagement with modern issues like consumerism and secularism. He has authored over a dozen books, including More Than Things (2023) and Evangelical Zen (2015), and contributes regularly to journals and his Patheos blog, 'Uncommon God, Common Good.'
Metzger’s professional roles include advisory positions with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the National Museum of American Religion, and the Foundation for Religious Diplomacy. He has led grants on multifaith engagement and theological education, reflecting his commitment to bridging faith and secular contexts.
