Professor Tony Butler is a leading academic in offender health and epidemiology at the School of Population Health, UNSW. He holds a PhD in prisoner health and has conducted extensive research on the health of incarcerated populations, including mental illness, traumatic brain injury, and blood-borne infections. His work emphasizes ethical research practices and public health policy within criminal justice systems. Butler leads the NHMRC Australian Centre of Research Excellence in Offender Health and co-leads the Justice Health Research Program (JHRP), focusing on innovative interventions like pharmacotherapy trials for violent offenders.
