Tony Barnett is an Adjunct Lecturer at Eastern Health Clinical School, Monash University, and a Research Fellow at The University of Queensland. He holds a PhD from Monash University (2020), focusing on clinicians' views of the brain disease model of addiction and neuroscientific integration in clinical practice.
His research interests span qualitative research, neuroethics, critical social science methods, opioid addiction, and harm reduction—including evaluations of supervised injecting rooms. Notable projects include studies on telehealth during the pandemic, depot buprenorphine treatment, and veterans' civilian transition challenges.
Recent publications emphasize telehealth implementation, treatment attendance barriers, and new materialist analyses of addiction care. He collaborates on projects like the 'AAT-App' (smartphone-based relapse prevention) and the DNA Project (reducing non-attendance in alcohol/drug services).
