Tony Barker is an Associate Professor and Senior Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia's School of Humanities. His research focuses on Australian history, United States history, sports history, and modern European history with particular attention to Britain. He holds degrees from the University of Sheffield (BA), the University of Sydney (MA), and the University of London (PhD).
Current research includes a book project examining American diplomats and their families in Australia and New Zealand during the Cold War. His work spans topics like slavery, racial theories, and the intersection of sport and society. Barker has authored/co-authored 12 books and contributed to 25+ research outputs, including works on US military bases in Australia and cricket history.
His research fingerprint highlights expertise in Australia-US relations, Cold War diplomacy, and oral history methodologies. Barker oversees post-graduate supervision and explores family histories blending Yorkshire and Aeolian island heritage.
