Georgia Cervin

Georgia Cervin is an Honorary Research Fellow at the School of Humanities, The University of Western Australia. She holds a BA (Hons) from the University of Otago and a PhD from The University of Western Australia. Her research focuses on cultural history through the lens of sport, particularly examining gender, race, and class dynamics in global contexts. Cervin is renowned for her work on women's artistic gymnastics, analyzing its Cold War-era history and contemporary challenges like abuse and governance. She has co-edited Histories of Women's Work in Global Sport: A Man's World?, which challenges stereotypes about women's roles in sport organizations. Based in Wellington, New Zealand, she has received significant funding, including a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Fellowship (2020) and multiple awards from UWA and the International Olympic Committee.

Research Interests
Her work spans Cold War sport diplomacy, governance of international sport, and the socio-cultural dimensions of women's participation in gymnastics. She critically examines how sport policies perpetuate systemic inequalities and advocates for reforms to protect athletes.
