Tonja Wissinger is an Associate Dean and Senior Lecturer III in Interdisciplinary Studies at the Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology, University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). Her academic career spans over three decades, with roles including Senior Lecturer (2007–Present), Assistant Dean (2012–Present), and prior positions at UTD and Richland Community College.
Education:
- Ph.D. - History of Ideas, University of Texas at Dallas (2004)
- M.S. - Interdisciplinary Studies, University of Texas at Dallas (1994)
- B.A. - Sociology, University of Texas at Dallas (1985)
Research Interests: Women’s history, American and British women’s literature, gender studies, history of medicine, childhood sexual abuse, and alcohol studies. Her work bridges historical analysis, literary criticism, and interdisciplinary approaches to societal issues.

- UTD Fifteen Year Service Award (2008)
- UTD Distinguished Teacher in Diversity and Multicultural Education Award (2011)
Teaching & Service: Courses include The American Woman in Transition, Childhood Sexual Abuse: A Multidisciplinary Investigation, and Rebels and Reformers: Women and Alcohol in America. She has supervised numerous independent studies and Senior Honors projects. Professional roles include membership in the UTD Academic Senate, SACS Academic Assessment Committee, and UT D Community Chorale.
