Tomás Magaña

Dr. Tomás Magaña is a board-certified pediatrician and faculty member with dual appointments as Assistant Professor at Samuel Merritt University and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He serves as Medical Director for the Masters Physician Assistant Department at Samuel Merritt University and as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UCSF. His work focuses on vulnerable youth populations, including those impacted by the juvenile justice and foster care systems.

Dr. Magaña’s research spans adolescent medicine, public health, and healthcare workforce development. His recent publication in Medical Education Online details the structure of undergraduate medical education pipelines.

His accolades include being named a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP) and founding the award-winning FACES for the Future Coalition. He has also served on advisory boards for healthcare workforce development and pediatric health.

At Samuel Merritt University, he teaches courses in Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. His prior roles include Medical Director at Alameda County’s Juvenile Justice Center and faculty positions at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland.
