Tomris Mustafa is a Research Fellow in Physiology at Monash University. Her work focuses on neuroendocrine mechanisms, particularly the role of pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) in stress responses, chromaffin cell function, and inflammatory processes. She uses mouse and non-human primate models to investigate neurochemical pathways and their behavioral consequences.
Her research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being (SDG 3), advancing understanding of stress-related disorders and obesity-linked inflammation. Key themes include PACAP signaling pathways, catecholamine biosynthesis regulation, and neuroimmune interactions.
Mustafa has published 29 peer-reviewed outputs since 2000, with notable work on chronic stress effects in mice and gastrointestinal inflammation models. Her studies often involve collaboration across disciplines, combining molecular biology, transcriptome analysis, and behavioral assessments.
