Toma Tebaldi

Toma Tebaldi is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Medical Oncology and Hematology at Yale School of Medicine, with affiliations to the Center for Biomedical Data Science, Genomics, Genetics, and Epigenetics, and Yale Cancer Center. His research focuses on RNA molecular mechanisms in diseases, combining computational and experimental approaches to study alternative splicing, non-coding RNAs, and RNA modifications. He holds an interdisciplinary background with degrees in Biotechnologies and Bioinformatics from the University of Milano Bicocca and a PhD in Information and Communication Technology from the University of Trento.

Research Interests: Dr. Tebaldi’s work explores how RNA processing dysregulation contributes to hematologic malignancies and other diseases. His lab develops computational tools for analyzing single-cell RNA-seq and spatial transcriptomics, with a focus on stress granules, epitranscriptomic modifications (e.g., m6A), and RNA-binding proteins. Key areas include:

• RNA splicing abnormalities in myeloid cancers
• Translational control pathways in tumor progression
• Monocyte adaptation in inflammatory lung diseases

Recent Findings: Recent studies highlight roles of Ezrin in monocyte adaptation to lung inflammation (Cell Death & Disease 2024), ALKBH5 in HSC metabolism (Cell Reports 2023), and stress granule signatures in splicing factor mutant leukemias (Blood 2024). His lab also pioneered the expressyouRcell computational framework for visualizing dynamic gene expression patterns.
