Karla M Neugebauer is the R. Selden Rose Professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry and Professor of Cell Biology at Yale School of Medicine. She directs the Yale Center for RNA Science and Medicine since 2018. Her research focuses on RNA metabolism, co-transcriptional splicing, and Cajal body dynamics. Neugebauer holds a BS from Cornell University and PhD from UCSF, with postdoctoral training at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Max Planck Institute.

Research interests span RNA biology mechanisms, including splicing regulation, nuclear speckles, and membraneless organelles. Her lab pioneered techniques linking imaging, genomics, and sequencing to study RNA processing. Notable achievements include discovering co-transcriptional splicing prevalence and identifying coilin's essential role in zebrafish development.
Recent work bridges fundamental biology with climate challenges, advocating biochemical solutions for planetary health. Over 90 publications span Nature Reviews Cancer, Molecular Cell, and Cell Biology journals. Awards include RNA Society's Mid-Career Prize (2017) and EMBO membership (2012).
