Dr. Tom Woerner-Powell is a Senior Lecturer in Modern Islam, Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Manchester. His interdisciplinary research focuses on religio-political dimensions of Islamic thought across colonial and post-colonial contexts, examining intersections between religious practices and political frameworks.

His work analyzes modern representations of Islam through the lens of religion, with particular emphasis on pacifism, nonviolence, and religiously sanctioned violence. Current projects include an AHRC-funded international study on Islamic nonviolence.
