Brannon D. Ingram is an Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Northwestern University, specializing in Islamic studies with a focus on South Asia and global South Asian Muslim diasporas. He holds a B.A. from Reed College, M.A. from Leiden University, and Ph.D. from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
His research centers on modern Islamic debates about Sufism, Islamic law, and politics, particularly through the lens of the Deoband movement. Key works include Revival from Below: The Deoband Movement and Global Islam (2018), analyzing the movement's global influence and anti-Sufi critiques, and current research on how Muslims theorize the category of 'religion' versus Islamic din.
