Tom Keeline is an Associate Professor of Classics at Washington University in St. Louis (WashU), specializing in Latin and Greek literature, classical scholarship history, and digital approaches to Classics. He holds a PhD from Harvard University and is affiliated with the Department of Classics within the School of Arts & Sciences.
His research focuses on Cicero’s reception, ancient educational practices, textual criticism, and language pedagogy. Notable works include The Reception of Cicero in the Early Roman Empire (2018) and a Cambridge commentary on Cicero: Pro Milone (2021). Current projects include a digital critical edition of Ovid’s Ibis and a co-authored global history of the classical tradition.
Keeline promotes active Latin use through teaching and co-founded the Grex Ludouicopolitanus for spoken Latin in St. Louis. He also co-created the Latin podcast Philologia Perennis. His recent articles explore Latin syntax, pedagogy, and historical linguistic patterns, such as “Adams’ Law” and the Placement of esse in Pliny the Younger (2022).
Teaching emphasizes immersion in Latin, and his work bridges classical scholarship with modern digital tools and language revitalization efforts.
