معرفی
Tom Grossmann is a Full Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, leading the Chair of Biomimetic Chemistry within the Department of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He is affiliated with the Amsterdam Institute of Molecular and Life Sciences (AIMMS). His research focuses on peptidomimetics, proteomimetics, and protein engineering, targeting oncogenes like β-catenin and Wnt signaling pathways. He has supervised seven PhD theses, including notable students such as Felix Paulussen and Alejandro Yeste-Vázquez.
Education:
- PhD in Chemistry (2008), Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
- Postdoctoral research at Harvard University (2008–2011)
- Chemistry studies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (1999–2003)
Research Interests: Developing biomimetic peptides and proteomimetic scaffolds for drug discovery, targeting cancer biology, antibiotic development, and protein-protein interactions. Key areas include stapled peptides, enzyme-catalyzed cyclization, and modulation of Wnt signaling. His work has led to advancements in therapies for colorectal cancer and antibiotic-resistant pathogens.
Awards:
- Thieme Chemistry Journal Award 2014
- Schering Ph.D. Award 2008
- Fischer-Nernst Ph.D. and Study Awards
Grants & Collaborations: ERC Starting Grant, ERC Proof of Concept Grant, and projects with companies like Incircular B.V. and Apollum GmbH. Active in editorial roles for ChemBioChem and Journal of Peptide Science.
Labs & Teams: Leads the GrossmannLab, focused on biomimetic chemistry and translational research. Collaborates with groups at Amsterdam UMC and the University of Notre Dame.
