Tom Baldock is a Professor and Head of the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Queensland. His research focuses on coastal and marine engineering, including tsunami impacts, wave run-up dynamics, beach erosion, and coral reef hydrodynamics. He leads projects on wave energy conversion and coastal resilience, with field studies across the Great Barrier Reef.
Baldock's research integrates laboratory experiments, numerical modeling, and field observations to understand sediment transport and coastal hazards. His recent work explores climate change impacts on coral reefs and develops machine learning approaches for reef conservation.
His publications demonstrate consistent focus on hydrodynamic modeling, with recent emphasis on coral rubble stability (2023-2025), renewable energy integration (2024), and probabilistic risk assessment (2025). Research evolves from fundamental wave dynamics to applied conservation technologies.
Baldock supervises Ph.D. candidates in coastal engineering and collaborates with the Centre for Marine Science. He has contributed to public understanding through media engagements on tsunami modeling and beach erosion.
