Ryan Lowe is a Professor at the University of Western Australia and serves as a Chief Investigator and Program Leader for the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies. His research focuses on coastal and estuarine hydrodynamics, numerical modeling of wave dynamics, sediment transport, and biophysical interactions in marine systems. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. from Stanford University and a B.S. from the University of California.
Dr. Lowe employs field studies, laboratory experiments, and numerical modeling to investigate how oceanic/atmospheric forces influence coastal systems including coral reefs, beaches, and estuaries. His work integrates hydrodynamics with sediment transport and biogeochemical cycling to advance understanding of reef resilience under climate change.
Recent research highlights include studies on coral reef adaptation mechanisms, climate impacts on fisheries, and the application of remote sensing for coastal monitoring. His work has been featured in media releases addressing coral bleaching, genetic studies of reef resilience, and socioeconomic implications of environmental changes.
