Dr. Todd Lyda is a Lecturer in Genetics at Clemson University, teaching undergraduate genetics courses after previous appointments at High Point University and research positions at NIH. His PhD research at Clemson focused on trypanosome metabolism, building on molecular biology training at Princeton University.
Research Focus: Lyda investigates parasitic trypanosomes that cause neglected tropical diseases, with expertise in developing Leishmania-based expression systems for recombinant proteins including synthetic spider silk. His work advances therapeutic development for diseases like leishmaniasis and African sleeping sickness.
Outreach: Founded Para Tryp Research Organization to promote research into trypanosome diseases and developed educational RPG Para Roles to engage public understanding of disease research challenges.
