Todd Hare is an Associate Professor of Neuroeconomics and Human Development at the University of Zurich's Department of Economics. His research focuses on neural mechanisms underlying decision-making, particularly how self-control, stress, and social feedback influence choices. He holds a PhD in Neuroscience from Cornell University (2007) and a BS in Biology from Iowa State University (2002). Before joining UZH in 2010, he was a postdoctoral scholar at the California Institute of Technology.
His work bridges neuroeconomics, cognitive neuroscience, and developmental psychology, examining how brain networks mediate decision-making in health and dysfunction. Key contributions include studies on stress impairing self-control, neural correlates of leadership decisions, and age-related differences in reward processing.
Awards: Kavli Fellow (2011), Society for Neuroeconomics Young Investigator Award (2010).
Grants: Over CHF 4.3M from Swiss National Science Foundation, EU, and Velux Stiftung for projects on self-control, aging, and decision neuroscience.
Teaching: Leads courses on neuroeconomics, Bayesian data analysis, and cognitive neuroscience. Directs the Doctoral Program in Neuroeconomics at UZH.
